I recently realised, when taking some people through my portfolio how much of it is based on the outdoors, and so I make no apologies this one is more of the same. This image comes from a picture I took of a fungus whilst out mountain biking at Cannop.

It’s one of the Bolete family known as Slippery Jack or Sticky Bun. It forms symbiotic associations with living trees by enveloping the tree’s underground roots with sheaths of fungal tissue.

1. after sketching the image out, I copy onto tracing paper as usual. I’ve yet to work on the text, which will be the hardest part.
2. Trying a hammer and nail for simple dot indentations, its works, but not easily something I’ll keep experimenting with. I’ve also added the copy which I’ll need to cut around, much harder than just gouging out.
3.the printed piece, the copy came out a lot better than expected and I quite like the framing created by quite rough occasional gouging out of the edges.
